Dearest section,
I really cant express my love towards you.
Look at this way, we've stick together for almost 3 years especially the sec 3s. We've shared ghost stories and jokes and many more. I really cant thank all of you enough for being my source of happiness in band. It is more than enough to see all of you during band practices. Be it during school time or holidays. Congrats again to Sophia and Angie for your new post! Do lead the section. Dont be afraid to make mistakes. Every leader makes mistakes. When you choose not to make mistakes, it means you choose not to lead. It is not enough to aim, you gotta hit the target. So when you miss, keep on trying and strive harder. Nothing is impossible if only you work towards to your goal. This goes to
everyone. Appreciate what you have now. For example, maybe now you keep failing your tests. Just try harder and never give up. I guess thats just how God wants your life to be. God is forever fair. Today you may fail. But you'll never know tmr you'll turn out to be a
millionaire or whatever, who knows. Do treasure every moment with each other as you walk on your journey to SIBF. Especially the sec 3s. Time is rather short and before you know it, you'll be stepping down and handover your jobs to your juniors. Good and fun moments pass by very very fast i can assure you that. So treasure each other. Help each other out. MOTIVATE each other. YES! Motivation is essential to boost up a person who is currently feeling rather upset over stuffs. Give words of encouragement to each other. And NO CONFLICTS PLEASE. Thats the veryveryvery LAST thing on my list when i come back. IF i come back. ^^ okay its gonna be a loooong post but like i said, this might be my very last post. So.. Yeah. :D

To ANGIE,
Hello my junior! You've been really great in helping us finding the scores and packing our files. Kudos to you girl! And and thanks a lot for laughing at my jokes! :D At least someone thinks i'm funny. Hahah! Kay whatever Fatin. =___= Anyway, congrats for being the only librarian in the section!! Haha! Totally suits you man! :))) I know being a librarian is definitely not easy. Especially when a performance is coming up. You have to ensure all scores are photocopied, write bar nos. , neatly packed in order in the files, distribute banners and clips, ensuring enough stands. Woah. Thats really some tough job huh. But no worries alright! You can treat the other members like servants and help you find the scores and blablabla. Whoa! I'm so evil. Okay no. Just joking. What i meant is get help from the section. MUST. And not only Sophia. Because she still have other jobs like being the concert head. Okay? Alrighty then! :)

Hello my awesome keyboardist! Haha! Having you as my junior is a great pleasure. I'm glad that you were willing to open up and share your thoughts with me and your seniors too. And i'm also glad for getting to know you deeper and understand you better. You're really a strong girl. Whatever that you've told me just showed me how patient and tough you are in facing and overcoming obstacles. And not just one but much more I believe. Whoever who teased you, tell them to just SHUT THE HELL UP. People like them are very childish so no point entertaining them. Its like entertaining a very naughty toddler. Haha yeah okay. Dont worry too much okay! You've got a family behind you. And they are your section. I'm sure they will treat you just like their own sister like i do. Hey there junior! I know you're upset for not being selected as main SIBF player. But hey! No worries! You still have many more opportunities coming your way like SYF next year! Its not the end of the world yet! Dont feel left out because you
re not. You have a very important job too. As SIBF draws nearer, it is your job to give moral support to the rest! Keep reminding them to rest well and duh! Stay healthy of course! Comfort him or her if the person is down or upset or disappointed or whatever. It really really means a lot to that person if you do so because by then, people will recognise you for your caring-ness and concern towards your section. It just shows how good you are as a junior. So dont be upset anymore okay!

If you're sick, try not to attend band. Because i believe you need all the rest that you'll have at home. Dont trouble your SL and ASL okay! And one more thing, open up more to your seniors okay! HELLOO!

It's been almost 2 weeks since the previous post.
Looks like no one even bother to update the blog.
BUT NEVERMIND!
Fatin is here to do some blogging!
And to revive the blog!
Yeah you maybe thinking that I've got nothing else better to do.
But actually I have 101 things in mind to do.
Okay not really. xD

HEY YOU PEOPLE!

MID-YEAR is only 11 more days away! It's like less than a week. -.-
I know you're gonna show the "oh-man-please-dont-remind-me-about-midyear-because-i-just-dont-have-the-mood-to-study-yet" kind of face. HAHA.
SAME here. Furthermore, it's my freaking O level year! UGH. Come to think of that is very scary. Not like you guys. Still have a lot of rooms for improvements. So dont waste every opportunity!
Anyway, just like any other major exams, midyear is very important!
In fact, all exams are important!
So work hard and smart and strive hard as well.

OH. And btw, since all of you have loaned home your sticks right, please do the normal warm ups at home so that after exams when band resumes, your hands and wrists won't be stiff. And what more, SIBF is somehow just around the corner once midyear ends. I know you guys want a good medal for it right so you gotta put your heart and soul into it and be committed to band. I dont want to hear any news about any of you skipping band practices with invalid reasons. Yes I may have stepped down but news in band tend to spread very fast. Like less than a day and almost everyone knows about it. So yeah. DONT SKIP BAND. If you try to skip, I'll catch you and deal with you personally. Call me kaypoh or whatsoever. I dont give a damn. Dont say nonsensical stuffs like "Oh, i hate this person so much thats why i dont want come for band." or "Band very boring." or anything la. When i come back at any point of time during june holidays practices, I wish to see 100% attendance. Meaning, I wanna see all of you putting in effort, working towards SIBF. SIBF is no doubt a tougher competition that SYF. We managed to attain a silver award for SYF last year. Imagine SIBF. You wouldnt want to get a not so good medal right? I'm sure everyone dont. Hence, be fully committed to band. Everyone of you are important. I've said that a lot of times but apparently, some of you just dont get my message. YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO THE BAND. WHATEVER YOU'RE PLAYING MAKES A DIFFERENCE TO THE BAND SOUND.

Hello Section!

As you all know, Speech Day is only 3 days away.
Please do take it seriously.
Have the mindset to perform well.
Not only that. This is also a good opportunity for you guys to really unleash your true colours and show to me what I have taught you guys so far. Well, not only me but also Dhaniah, Zoey and Miaoyun. Make us proud! :D

Anyway,
I really really want to make the Speech Day's performance my last and BEST one in Damaiwinds. Yes, I'm not really a main player because I've sacrificed my parts to some of you because I wanna see you guys play. "Dont just play for the sake of playing", a quote from Dhaniah. :) Play your parts because you want and you love playing it. Not because to be a show off and act like you're the King of the world or some sort. Because at the end of the day, people dont really give a damn about you trying to show off. But it is YOU who will finally realise the great feeling of playing it with all your heart. Embrace the awesomeness of playing. As well as playing together as one. I dont wanna see people showing attitude. I really dont.

It will be my last day in band as much as it kills me to say that. So bottom line, make me proud and make me feel that all my efforts are not wasted.

Okay , i guarantee that it'll be very super late minute , so we must be prepared at ALL TIMES you know . If you have the time during SI , just practise on the songs .DONT SLACK , if i see you slacking , you'll knock it down 10 etc okay ? (Must train fitness!)
SPEECHDAY IS COMINGGGGGG .
Its on 10 April ! And now its , 22 march ? You count the numbers of days left yourself uh . Its super round the corner already you know . I've told you all your parts beforehand . And im giving you ONE MORE CHANCE to clarify your parts with me tomorrow . I dont wanna hear things like " Huh ? i got part meh ? " or " Whats my part ah ? " Its super disappointed you know . I told you all your parts , i even wasted my $ and time , on writing the parts and pasting it onto the folder . But still , you guys never take the initiative to check etc . It hurts sial .
AUDITION FOR SPEECHDAY IS COMINGGGGGG.
For your info , there'll be auditions okay . To see if you are able to join Speechday's performance is through the auditions . If you cannot pass your audition , well .. Sorry then . You guys should be practising whenever you're free . I dont wanna keep nagging about practising on your hand warmups etc . When Mr Wong is conducting the band without Percussion . You can also stand there and practise your wrists . And , DONT SIT DOWN . If you are tired , get a chair from somewhere and rest . Dont sit down . Mr Wong once said he dont wanna see us sitting down . I hope i wont remind you again and again okay .

Okay lah , i dont know what colour to put already ): Maybe you guys will think " band band band , aiya sian lah ... " But , if you can handle your studies and CCA , you dont find it a burden etc . Its just a matter of how you handle things , if you cant even handle such small stress, dont ever think of entering Poly/Jc . Its worse . Lastly , stop relying on the seniors . " If you cant , then you must " Count on yourself , you wont be able to archieve what you want if you dont believe in yourself . " People who succeed will not give up , People who give up will not succeed " Dont ever give up , overcome the obstacle . If you see a stone there , and you decided to run away from it , you will not be able to reach the top . Pick up the stone , and throw it far far away so that it will never come back again . Holidays are ending soon.

Yeah I do know that most of you dont seem to really enjoy your holidays.
Same here!
I have school like .. Everyday. From monday to friday. But oh well, this is a typical life of a typical student. :)

Okay first thing, I am grateful and thankful and proud of those in Demo Band.
Even though we only had very few hours of practices but we still manage to pull it through and show the acsj kids the correct version of playing LCF. Well, not really correct la but 80% at least. I hope you guys have had a very enriching experience teaching the acsj kids. I have and I am sure you do right? yeah. Haha!

However, there are still lots and lots of performances coming up. Like Speech Day, Parents Night and especially SIBF.
We still have to work hard and practice for those performances.
It is still not the end of the world yet so..
Hang in there okay people!

Sec 3s and 2s, i know you are busy preparing for SIBF but i hope you guys wont neglect our Sec 1s alright. They are also part of the section so yeah. Pls pls interact and communicate wih them. Motivate them and correct their mistakes. Plus, they are your successors after you step down. For the past few practices, the Sec 4s have been the ones teaching them the basic fundamentals especially our dearest Dhaniah so when you guys see her in school must thank her okay! :D

Lastly, i know it has been more than a week but uhm.. Yeah. Haha!

Just wanna let you guys know that you played ok for yesterday's practice. But like what your current CM said that it is still not up to standard. For timpani, you need to be more confident. And be bold about your part. Because you have quite a few solos in eagle bend. Crash and bass drum try to synchronise your parts together. It must be very precise. Snare drum, i dont care but i want you to know how to play the whole score by monday. Will audition you guys on monday. Triangle, i want more rolling and crescendo. Speaking of which, justin pls practice on your rolling for bass drum okay. The rest of the songs, score study it. There will be audition for all songs.

Next, as you all know that Sophia is my successor or in other words, the next upcoming SL of percussion. Do respect her. She really needs your cooperation and help. Especially for packing of scores which the librarians will check this monday. I wanna see all of you in band store packing the files and cupboard. Dont make her do all these things because she is definitely not an octopus. Or a robot. Dont give her trouble because she still have yet to adapt to the fact that she is your next SL. I really hope all of you will cooperate with her. Is that okay?? Of course it is! Haha.

To my dearest successor, dont be afraid to command the section. There are still several things i need to tell you. Basically, dont stress yourself out. Feel free to ask me if you need any help. I have faith in you! :D

to the rest, rmb to score study your scores and visit the blog to listen to the songs that we are currently playing. It will really help you in your score study.

Hi.

I am here to summarise your performance for last week. Truthfully it is not up to my expectations. Besides your playing, your attitude is worst. I heard complains for last friday's practice. Lost count. Totally no leader in charge at all. At all okay. ASLs, what have you all been doing all this while? Lazying around? I thought its pretty obvious that if the SL is not around then the ASL will automatically be in charge. But when mr wong asked who was the leader last friday, no one even dare to speak up. Are you cowards? I hope not. And last friday, i heard that sectional warm ups took more than 30 min and you are only left with 15 min or so to practice on the 4 songs. 15 min is not enough. Warm ups should only take less than 25 min. Who say you can extend your sectional warm ups? Ive given to whoever the schedule but it seems that you are not even following strictly to time stated in the schedule. Then what for i give you the schedule? I mean seriously it is ridiculous for the section to practice all songs in just 15 min. And then no wonder you guys played like crap during combine band. Lack of practice what. Seniors also. No one even dare to speak up and say that sectional warm ups is only for 25 min. Whats this? I have said so many times that you must be daring no matter what. What happened last friday and what you all did is NOT up to my expectations. This is only mine expectations. Not yet mr wong's.

I know you guys can do it. I have long enough have faith in you people.
What if one day i finally give up on you guys? You wouldnt want that to happen right.
I have never given up you. But some times, your actions already can show me and force me to give up.
But i have never did. And never will.
Dont make me lose trust and faith in you.

Is this my first time blogging? -_-

So hello again :) I'm here to talk about the upcoming ensemble performance.

I hope you guys are looking forward to it, because it's OUR PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE! We have to be proud about it when we play. Have the spirit and make it through! Show the other sections that we're not as bad as they think we are because we know we can. Right? :) Do approach the seniors if any of you have any doubts.. We'll try our very best to help you with whatever we can alright.

Feel it when you play the ensemble. Not only ensemble, but whenever you play drums. It's right within you, it's just up to your awareness if you realise it or not. So do us proud. I know you guys can, and I wouldn't say this for nothing, which means I'm saying it with every sense in the word there is.

Sec2s, you've improved and but you guys can do better :) The sec1s are coming very soon, so I need each and everyone of you to know what you guys are supposed to know. Especially the fundamentals and all that. They're indeed very essential :)

I have faith in you guys! Play music because you enjoy :)

Okayokay. I'm doing my job here to motivate you guys! Yay me!
So, I really hope that you have been your score-studying at home during the weekend on Eagle Bend and Lion City Festival. Before next band prac, all of you must know how to play already. Never say cannot. Plus, Lion City Festival is actually an adjudication piece for Primary Schools SYF Central Judging this year. If they can do it, so can you! Definitely you can. If you keep telling yourself you can, of course you can! But if it's the other way round, then obviously you cannot la cos you already tell yourself you cannot. Like what I said, dont underestimate yourself! Everyone is stupid from the start. It's just a matter of determination and will. If you put your 100% guts to improve yourself, no doubt that you will be a good player in time to come. Plus, if you have the passion for band, I assure you that you will grow to be a good player and member of the band in no time. Because when you have the passion, you will always want to improve and bring yourself up to the next level. You accept criticisms as they come as and when, and you will try your very best to prove them wrong.

If you have the guts, there should be no problem for you to grow to be a confident and good player.

One more thing, do motivate each other even if it's just a phrase or word like "GO Angie!" or "Don't give up!" because you never know that a simple word might mean a lot to you when the world has turned its back on you or when you just feel like everything seems worthless.

Hi guys!

How are guys doing? Fine ? Hope so.

I hope this post will inspire you again to start your engines right now. Okay dont really picture it because think of it as putting your heart and soul to keep on improving.

SIBF.
Yes everyone should know what it is by now. If you're now showing a blank face with a big big big question mark on it, I suggest you take something heavy and smack it on your head.

Tomorrow will officially be the start of our journey to SIBF. I know I keep emphasizing on it but there's a reason why.

Once again, the parts are more or less finalized. Start score studying right now and work on it. Keep reminding yourself that you can do it. Because I know you can. If not, then why would Mr Wong put you to be that player? Because he knows you can do it and he believes in you. Keep on striving harder to improve your playing. Whenever things mess up, dont panick! Or else everything will turn to HAYWIRE. If you think you played not up to standard or if anyone criticised you on your playing and you fall, pick yourself up quickly and prove them wrong. But of course you have to do something also la to prove them wrong. Not just by saying. But by doing. It just means nothing if you just say it. But it means a lot if you do what you have said. Dont wait for people to give you countless of reminders. Be initiative! You are seniors so you should start thinking maturedly like a young adult. I've shared my experience in band and how I've grown. You guys should be thankful that we Sec. 4s are loyal to the section. We do our very best to help you in everyway. UNlike in the past. We had to learn almost everything by ourselves. That's more challenging but in spite of it, we took the challenge and we successfully overcome it. You have to be brave to take these challenges that will come your way throughout your journey to SIBF. It will be tough but it will be for a good cause. Work real hard and get a good medal for it. I cannot explain and describe the feeling of having to achieve a good medal for a competition. It's so amazing. It's awesome and the feeling's great. I know you guys wanna have that sense of feeling too but you must work hard for it. You have to do something to achieve something. Even a baby has to crawl to reach for his/her toys so that he/she can play with the toys. Same like us. We have to practice and practice, work smart to achieve a good medal for the competition. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE YOURSELF. Because you are there for a purpose. Take your parts seriously. Every part is utterly important. If not, then why would the composer add in that part right?? If he/she thinks its not important, he/she would definitely have not compose for that part to be included in that piece. So yeah. I hope you guys understand what I'm saying so far.

So all in all, work hard, help each other out, treat each other like family, encourage each other along the way, motivate and inspire each other in any way and lastly, all the best alright!

I know that the recent practices had been very tough and rough to endure. But no worries alright! I still have faith in you like I always do! So don't stop striving. I've seen improvements and I'm happy about it. You guys are already taking the next step to the next level of improvement. Give yourself a thumbs up or if you think that's kind of a stupid thing then uh .. Smile to yourself ?. HAHAH. ROFL!

BE optimistic okay! Dont let your sorrows take over you. You can do it. I know you can. Fear nothing. If things go wrong, just let it be and move on. Paste a smile on your face and believe that everything will be just OK! If you have any problems, feel free to approach me or any of your seniors. We Dont Bite People. So yeah. :)

Hello Percussionists!

I am back to revive this blog again! :)

Warning as this post might be long. But I assure you that it will make you feel more better or in other words, motivate you after reading this. :)

Lately, I've been noticing your behaviours turning from bad to worst. I don't understand why. Countless reminders but still it doesn't get inside your head.

Sec. 1s, I must say that I am proud of you for your hard work and determination. I know band practices can get boring but you must know that it's for your own good. You must know your fundamentals very very well and apply it in band. Those notebooks are not there for nothing. It is for you to write down new things or concepts that you've just learnt in band. Honestly, each and everyone's learning pace varies differently. But never ever take that as a reason to differentiate if you're a good or bad player. Everyone is a good player. It's just whether you are determined to become like one. Don't be upset or downhearted if you see that your peers are better than you. Never underestimate yourself. Take that as a challenge for you to improve yourself so that you will reach the same level or standard like your peers or maybe even better, you will never know. You must be confident. Don't be afraid because words like "afraid", "scared", "nervous", "frightened" DON'T EXIST in the Percussion Dictionary. It is okay to make mistakes but it is soo not okay to REPEAT the same mistakes. Because when you make a mistake, you learn from it and make sure you never repeat it ever again. That's when you take the first step to the next level. I have faith in you so YOU gotta have faith in yourself.
BE DARING! - this will be your motto from today onwards okayokay! ^^

SENIORS, to be truthful, your learning pace is getting slower and slower. I don't understand why. You are supposed to set a good example for your juniors. But I don't see any signs of that. And for a senior to say that he/she is afraid to play during combined band? Where did that come from? Where is your confidence? Where is your optimism? And where is the spirit you showed before SYF? It doesn't mean that SYF is over you can slack. You are seniors like hello? How can you do such things like s-l-a-c-k? Don't always rely on me or your sec. 3s. Because we will gonna graduate next year and it will be so soon. Relying on people just shows that you are a coward. Imagine if all of the sec. 3s are absent for one particular band practice. How will you feel? I've said this so many times. Stop relying on us. And stop all the nonsense about "Hey! Fatin is the best player so no problem.." or "Hey Dhaniah is here! So what's there to worry about?" or "Hey Zoey is here! At least there's someone who knows how to play the xylo/glockenspiel..". NO one is perfect. I know that all of you are good players. But you are not showing me that's the problem. And score-study. Do you guys even do that? If you want to play good you have to score-study first. And not just study one bar at a time. Follow the 10 steps like how Ms Tan taught us during band camp. It will be effective if you apply it in your score-reading. I see so many potential leaders and good players but you people are just not showing me that you're trying your very best, putting your heart and soul to succeed. At times I wonder if I have ever taught you the wrong things but have I? Don't make things difficult for me. I really really want to see all of you playing very well during combined band. There was once that all of you make me really proud. But that's just it. Where is the determination and will? I do hope it hasn't gone down to the drain. Be the best that you can be. Not always the best in what you do. Try new things. Change your set of mind. Be daring. Just BREAKOUT! I've experienced what you are experiencing. Some of you should know that I used to be so afraid, so timid like a mouse when it comes to combined band. I used to rely on my seniors but then I started to realise that the seniors won't stay long. They're gonna graduate and leave Damaiwinds sooner or later. So I told myself that it's time for me to change. It's time for me show what I've got inside of me. Now you see I'm not afraid anymore. Just play like how you want it to be. Like how you want the rest to hear and be impressed by your playing. Criticisms are also there for you to improve yourself. Yes it is. I take criticisms as a challenge for me to improve myself. I take them as a challenge for me to show that I can and will be better than what the others think of me. Never ever underestimate yourself. Because that's the worst thing that could happen to a good player like you.

Well said, I hope my thoughts and say can at least be a wake up call or motivation for all of you to start improving yourself. Remember, each and everyone of you are important to this section. You are one of the reasons why I love coming to band. Your presence means a lot to me. The one thing that keeps me driving in band is my section and that's YOU. You give me the courage, motivation and support whenever I'm out of my comfort zone. So I hope I can also be your source of motivation. :)
You belong to this section. You belong to Percussion. And you will always be.

You have to score study Eagle Bend. Do it like how Ms Tan taught us during band camp.
You are to memorise Fanfare of Wakakusa Hill by next band prac.
By end of December, you should be able to do MULTI-STROKE ROLLING FOR 24 COUNTS.
Do SERIOUS SCORE STUDY for Eagle Bend, Fanfare of Wakakusa Hill, Postcard from Singapore.
I need to know if you're going overseas during this month.
There will be band outing on 21st Dec at ECP. Be prepared to pay $5-$8 for this.

Everything I say here is crucially important. You dont have the scores it's your problem. I've told you to come back to pack files but unfortunately, some of you didn't come. There will be audition very soon.

Okayokay. Few reminders but firstly, to you-know-who, your birthday's coming up so soon! hahaha. L-O-L.

So uhm, I guess I have to repeat myself again. This Monday, 23/11/09, all of you are required to come down to pack your scores from 9.30am to 12pm. If you skip it, you will bear the consequences. And I assure you that the consequences will be something that you've never expected before in your life. So be there alright!

Next, band camp is on this Tuesday till Thursday. For more info, check out the band's blog. Oh and also your sleeping groups too! They're also posted in the band blog. Apart from that, there's also the checklist for the band camp. I think now is the right time to start packing for those of you who haven't pack. Not like some people who only start to pack at the very last minute. Simply because there's high chances of you forgetting to bring some stuffs like you-know-what.

Lastly, for those who are absent on the previous practice, you are required to pay $8 for band camp. And some of you still owe me BAND TEE/BAND FUND/BAND CAMP money so please make your payments before band camp! I mean it seriously. I'm tired of reminding you for the umpteenth time.

Since there won't be any band practices for now until further info, please use this time wisely to brush up on your fundamentals. It's really useless if you don't master your fundamentals. And also don't just forget the ensembles. Yes, there won't be any lunchtime concert but you have to still keep on score-studying and practising on those ensembles which you have been assigned to. Because we will never know that there might be another performance and maybe there also might be chances for ensemble players to perform. So don't just stop there! Keep on striving alright! (:

Band camp will be from 24-26 November 2009. Be present or you shall die. Haha. Okay joking!

So how are you girls and guys? Did you survived EOY? haha. Well I didn't. Fyi, it was a killer to me. -.-

ANYWAY, band is most likely to resume next week. So I hope you have been doing your score studying etc etc. A friendly reminder that there's lunchtime concert after eoy. So be prepared mentally and physically. Because somehow I think that there're some of you who have gone haywire or gone bonkers already after studying so hard for eoy. Like me... HAHA chey!

So ya. Must do self hand warm-ups at home now that you have 4 days of "freedom". For those who have sort of lost touch with your sticks, please please practice at home! Since eoy is like finally over.

Sec 2s, I hope that you've done your best for eoy. Because it's your STREAMING. And that's very very very important. For those who are opting to take triple science, TAKE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. haha. OKay kidding! But seriously, you really gotta work extra hard. HARDER than this year. Or else you'll regret. Like ME. haha. OH and must be mentally prepared to face big big challenges as you move on with life being a Sec. 3. So .. well Good Luck! =D

Aloha people!

How have you all been ever since band stand down? Hope you are managing everything just fine. Anyway, this post is utterly important. The title speaks everything. =) All of you should have brought home your sticks for self-practice at home. Ensemble people, you are required to memorise your scores before band resumes. You have about one month so there should be no excuse for not being able to memorise the whole piece. I know final year exams are only a few days away so this is where you have to start to manage time your properly.

FOR SEC. 1s & SENIORS,
The following are some very important things you have to practise:

Rolling - must last for AT LEAST 24 counts. It must sound nice and even multi-stroking. Crescendo and De-crescendo for 4 counts each.
Paradiddle - practise from slow to fast tempo.
Chromatic scale
Intervals 4-8 for SEC. 1s

You have to do this before you proceed to do the following - SCORE-STUDYING.

FOR SEC. 1s :

Pasadena - focus on the parts you are unsure of
When you will come back again - focus on phrasing
Pavane in blue -whole piece

FOR SENIORS :

Folk Song Suite - Movement 1 & 2
Let's Swing - bar 25 to 93
Pavane in Blue - whole piece

FOR EVERY SONG, I want all of you to focus on phrasing, PULSING and DYNAMICS. For dynamics, apply what I have taught earlier on during the september holiday band practice. Remember, THINK before you play the phrase with the given dynamics especially CRESCENDO and DE-CRESCENDO. PULSING is also as important as dynamics. Because without pulsing, what we play will definitely sound monotonous. In other words, it's just plain boring and dull! We are supposed to play music. Music means nothing if you just play out the correct rhythm without any pulsing. We are Percussionists (like duh!), and we give the beat to the band. Every beat should have a pulse like your heart beat. Therefore, from now onwards, please include pulsing! It makes a HUGE difference to the band sound. The band will sound more ALIVE with pulsing. =)

Okay that's all. I expect your rolling to be exceptionally good when band resumes. I will hold an audition for this. Everyone are expected to pass this audition given the plenty of time of practices at home during this period.

Lastly, please take this seriously. I mean it.

For the very LAST TIME, I will remind all of you that your own scores are deadly IMPORTANT. You lose it, you will die. And this time, I seriously mean it. And ensemble people, DONT THINK THAT SOPHIA IS THE I/C AND YOU EXPECT HER TO DO ALL THE TASKS. EVEN SIMPLE THINGS LIKE PHOTOCOPYING SCORES BECOS YOU LOSE IT. Seriously la, I dont wish to get mad at you but you're the ones causing everything to be in a mess. Your scores, your own responsibility to find it. Fyi, ensemble i/c are not your servants.
NOW,
Anyone who lose any scores will face severe consequences. And I mean EVERYTHING I SAY. I dont wish to be strict and to punish you but discipline is really lacking in some of you. or maybe worst, some of you just dont have any basic discipline. So from now on, you lose your scores, that's your problem and solve your problem on your own. Dont come and find me and shoot some stuffs like "EH. My score lost. Help me photocopy can?" OR "I lost my score. You help me find extra?" OR "Can give me your score? Cos I lose mine." OR whatever la.

Seriously, I know I have been saying this repeatingly but yeah. I dont wish to be mad at you all. But some things just need to be mended.

Anyway, do score-study and try to memorise your parts. Remember, ensemble dont play with scores. So, simply memorise them before band resumes.

Aloha people!

A few things to note.
But firstly, good luck to those who are involved in the ensembles! Must make me proud okay.
And being involved in an ensemble is not that easy. You have to have full commitment to it. Because at certain times, or maybe more, you maybe required to stay back for further practices. You guy should know this. I mean come on! Common sense la can. Furthermore, it's for lunchtime concert. So you must put your heart and soul to it. And the percussion ensemble, i really look forward to see you guys performing. Becos I haven't got the chance to view the whole thing. If you need help, can always approach me or Kassyn. I will inform you of the things you need to know for the celebration and pirates ensemble. AND RESERVES ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE MEETING. So dont escape! You escape you die. Bring your notebook and pen along.

And one more thing,
Pls be serious about this ensemble. If you keep not showing up for practices then you will be out of the ensemble considering the fact that you're not showing any commitment to the ensemble. Well, if you think you dont wanna be involve in the ensemble, you can just inform me and dont make trouble on the later part. So yeah. Dont take this lightly. For those percussion ensemble who performed during Gala Night, i am sure you all were very happy with the outcome. And of cos i am sure that you guys enjoyed every minute and second up there performing and hitting the trash cans. And you guys should know that this was all because of our hard work and effort of coming back and staying late to practice and practice even to clear up some minor mistakes here and there. Well, I admire that spirit and I hope to see that spirit again for the upcoming ensembles! Seriously I do. I know it will be tough for some of you but this is a learning experience. You gotta go for it if you really want it. And yes I am very very sure you guys want this right? So yeah. Must encourage each other! Practice hard and Study hard too for your final year exams! This is what we will do:
1)EVERYBODY IS TO HAVE THEIR OWN FILE.
2)INSIDE THE FILES MUST HAVE ALL THE SONGS PLUS ALL THE PARTS IN CASE ANYBODY FORGOT TO BRING THEIR FILE...WHICH MEANS NO MATTER WHAT PART YOU WILL BE PLAYING YOU STILL MUST HAVE ALL THE SONGS THE PARTS...

Greetings to all!

Yeah, changed the blogskin. Hope you guys like it. And btw, it is best viewed in internet explorer. So if you're using a different one, then it's just too bad. haha.

Anyway, SOLO CONCERT IS LIKE 3 DAYS AWAY~
I hope you all have been practicing at home with your sticks. I know that it's very very limited to just use our sticks and super difficult but this is just the way it is. As you all know that our instruments are huge that we cant possible bring back a xylophone home, or drumset, or timpani(more worst). I'm also angry la that we have limited practices but I guess we just have to give it our best shot. I mean I too wants to practice on the instrument which I'm playing for the concert. And no matter what happens, like you screw up or something, dont worry a single bit because I will be right behind you cheering for you to move on as well as the rest of your peers.

And we're very disorganised. Like what mr wong said. But i told you for countless times that you are suppose to know your parts very very well. And it's not my duty nor dhaniah's to keep reminding you like a baby of your parts. You try to be in our situation, won't you feel irritated? Annoyed? I'm sure you do right. And you know that mr wong always complain to ME about the section. And it's like it's completely my fault when actually I DID told all of you of our mistakes and to correct it. But sadly, I dont see any improvements. Maybe you guys need some drills to wake you guys up. Well, I may be fierce but if you really think carefully, what has actually made me fierce? I mean a person becomes strict and fierce obviously because of something right? Well said, I have my own reasons too.

Your auditions are quite disappointing. From your results, I realised that I had been talking to the wall all this while since even the basic stuffs you dont bother to correct it as seen during the audition. Sec 2s, I know you're good but being good doesnt mean you can be defiant towards your seniors. If this happens again the next band prac, you guys shall bear the consequences. And whatever the consequence is, I assure you it shall be one that you'll never forget.

Dearest percussionists, I really really need your fullest cooperation right now. I really do.

everyone okayy? haha. just checking. becos some of you are falling ill nowadays so do take good care of yourself. must listen to what the doctor says. eg eat HEALTHY fruits/vegetables, eat something that contains carbohydrates for energy, proteins to build up your muscles and bones, DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER TO PREVENT DEHYDRATION.
okay, basically, just do what the doctor says la eh. =)

ensemble peeps!. heard that you guys are coping well. continue practising and strive harder alrights! G-DOUBLE 'O'-D-J-O-B, GOOD JOB! GOOD JOB! k lame.

sec. 1s! you guys are doing fantastically well. except the part when you're asked to play during combine band/warm-up. the key to be confident is ... not to be too nervous till you sweat and your sweat starts to trickle down and blablabla... okayokay!
THE KEY IS TO HAVE FAITH AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. TELL YOURSELF YOU CAN DO IT. and ... yeah, i know you can do it! haha.

sec. 2s! my dearest future leaders of the next generation to lead percussion, you guys and girls are amazing people! to be truthful, all of you have the potential to be leaders. it's just that i think you're somewhat afraid or fearful that you refuse to unleash your potential. well, fyi, it is almost time you start showing your leadership. because sec. 3s will be very very busy, now that it's term 3. i strongly believe in you guys because YOU are gonna be the one leading this section soon. YOU are gonna take over my lead. and YOU are gonna bring PERCUSSION to a higher standard and to scale new heights! so yeah. FATIN KNOWS YOU CAN DO IT SO YOU MUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF (and probably me too =P) THAT YOU CAN DO IT OKAY! Gooooood~
start to take things seriously. and when you're given a task/responsibility, fulfill it till the end. dont do half way becos that just makes you a loser. a round-time loser. okay not loser, but a weak leader. so, be faithful! =)))

sec. 3s! yeah, my peers! must start taking good care of our little "babies" , also known as our juniors. hahaha. we have to set a good example to them since we're the oldest in this section. and we must show them our tlc. you might wondering what's tlc. it's tender loving care. -.- must show them some "looove" you know. so that they will feel a sense of belonging to percussion'09. so yeah. and also obviously we have to teach them the techniques and etc. uh-huh. that's about it.

Firstly , those involve in ensemble kindly take note , practise at home more often okay ! We're getting lesser practises due to Orals etc , and during sectionals you've to prac on other songs too . So , easiest way is to prac at home too . An hour per day wont kill right ? Try to finish th whole piece asap if possible . Snaredrumer 1 2 & 3 , take note of th accent ! And its 3/4 not 4/4 ! (obvious) Work hard yoh ! The faster/better we finish th piece WITH NICE NICE TECHNIQUES etc , the faster we proceed to more challenging pieces seh . And and and , we've really gotta find a date and teach you guys notes (FGABCDEFG)Dead ._.

Dhaniah here. Guess it's my first time blogging here. I'd like to highlight some points.

Please take note of these. I don't wish to repeat. I actually don't choose to do this very systematically as it's all up to your initiative. In order to raise our standard, things have to work smoothly and you have to plan out before acting.

ESPECIALLY,
packing of scores. I hardly see sec2s packing files. Please co-operate. You know we don't wish to get scolded all the time. What's our goal? To raise the standard and be one of the best sections right? I need teamwork here. I'm glad you guys come for sectionals but what kills just to pack scores. That's more essential.
Okay, i don't wish to blabber any further. Just take note of these things.

Who to come down for sectionals when packing scores :
-Auxillaries

Note : For those who are in charge, take note of the members who didn't turn up to pack scores and it's your responsibility to make them attend as sectionals are now compulsory. Write down their names and hand them to me/Fatin.
Mondays will be the confirmed days of packing scores. Please update me right after finish packing. Everything ensure to be filed in on MONDAY.
For the assistants, if your leaders can't make it, you will have to take charge.
-Ensure all scores are inside
-write down the name of the songs that are missing
=your responsibility to photocopy the scores

The things you are supposed to do / carry when combined band or warm-up :

-Amirul, Justin, Brendan, Suhaib
assigned to carry drumset, bass drum and timpanis

- Zetty, Miao Yun,
assigned to set up stands, files, sticks. Likewise for band dismissal. Please move fast. When the other percussion members are bringing the other instruments inside, make sure the BOTH OF YOU stay in the music room and set up stands for each of the percussion instruments. Arrange them as well. If any of you is uncertain of the arrangement, you can approach me or fatin.

- Rasyiqah, Zoey, Peiyi
assigned to carry tubular bells, conga/bongo.

- Fatin, Dhaniah, Sophia, Niva, Angie
assigned to carry accessories box, windchimes, mallets+bells, cymbals, and other auxillaries if required.

For the sec1s audition, this will be the sequence,
1) a)4 quarter rhythm for first 5 rows
b) 6th row to the end
c) paradiddle
2)E flat, A flat, B flat, F scales.
3) Major scales
4) Chromatic scales
5) Interval studies

Please practise at home. We will be updating you the day of the audition. Those whom I've auditioned the first, you can move on the next one unless you've passed. If there're any changes, i will update you asap.

Reminder :
- Do not mess the shelf. Arrange them neatly. If Fatin or myself catch any of you misplacing the scores etc, punishment will be given.
-Bring 50 cents every practice for percussion fund

Hi. Just an update.

Sectionals and band practice will resume next week. On monday, the band store will be opened in the morning for you to put back your drumsticks. It's a M-U-S-T to bring back the drumsticks that you have loaned. And there will be sectionals. Unfortunately, we wont be practising that much. Instead, we will have to repack the scores to prepare for the band practice on the next day which is on Tuesday. Including re-photocopying the scores.

However, i wont be in the bandstore right after school as my lessons end at 2.30pm. So, i shall put someone in charge. Congratulations to this lucky person!

Main i/c : Sophia and Zoey
Photocopying of scores : Suhaib, Rasyiqah, Dhaniah
Writing of bar numbers : Angie, Zetty, Niva
Searching of scores : Justin, Zoey

REMEMBER! Scores that we're not using always put at the back of the file. For example, if you find a Fairytale's score inside the file, put it at the back of the file and not back into the ring file.

Seniors. Do guide your sec. 1s on their roles. Ensure they are familiarised with everything that is to be done for score-packing.

Scores with a lot of parts, photocopy at least 3 sets. Or maybe following the number of parts in the song. For example, Made in Singapore for accessories have maracas, claves and timbales all in 1 score, photocopy 3 sets. Make sure there's enough for everyone. Having extra sets would be better in case one is misplaced.

Those who have read this post, do me a favour. Pass on the msg to the rest. Inform them about what to do during sectionals before monday.Meaning you have the weekends to inform your friends/seniors/juniors.

I dont want any of you to skip this sectionals. I dont care what your reasons are. If I find out anyone of you who are absent for this, you are sure gonna get it from me. Worst, the leaders. If you dont come, I'll make sure that you come and do EVERYTHING the next time during sectionals. That includes photocopy ALL SCORES, WRITING BAR NUMBERS AND SEARCHING THE SCORES and they are to be done all by YOURSELF w/o anyone's help. That is if you skip sectionals on monday.

I am tired of reminding you. Even worst, some of you did not turn up AT ALL for the past few times when the bandstore is specially open to loan your sticks and bring back the scores.

I dont want anything to be messed up again. I'll come to help when my lessons end.

What I have mentioned above, I really really mean it. Yeah, it's not a joke.

Yes, you all will have to bring your mc and letter the next band prac. Or else will get punishment. However, your punishment wont be as brutal as your SL's. Becos your SL will 24/7 be responsible for EVERYTHING within the section. And your SL will receive double the punishment than the members. So I beg you all. Pleeeeeaaaaase bring your mc and letters! Pity your SL. So poor thing right?. =.=

Another thing, to whoever who editted the blogskin and everything, you spelt rasYiqah's name wrongly. Er, hello ? Should I repeat myself again? EVERY PERCUSSIONISTS SHOULD KNOW YOUR MEMBERS WELL AND THAT INCLUDES THEIR NAMES. Must know each and every member well okay?. Good. XD

Next, I apologise for the troublesome of distributing the scores. Unfortunately, we can't distribute your scores for score-study, as much as it kills me to say this! Because if you dont score study all of us will have a hard time playing when band resumes which is like next tuesday. This is due to my fear of losing the rest of the scores AGAIN. It's not that I dont trust you guys and girls. It's just that the percussionists-missing-scores kind of thing has been happening since like .. i dont know. maybe even before I was in dmss. So yeah. Anyway, we will also have a hard time putting all the scores back into the new files(bought by Dhaniah) as you all know that we always have numerous parts. In fact, more than the other sections. So must thank her whenever you all meet her okay! yes, she bought files for us. To be a good percussionist, it all starts from your attitude like respect your seniors and being polite. So whenever you meet dhaniah, must thank her kay!=D

I also wanna tell you people about packing scores. When the leaders inform the band that there's a need to pack your files, i have to say it's a MUST for you to come back during sectionals to do it. DONT RELY ON YOUR SENIORS. WE ARE NOT OCTOPUSES WHO CAN DO ALOT OF THINGS AT ONE TIME. Don't expect us to do it for you. You are big enough to do things on your own. And pity your SL AGAIN. Because she has been the one packing and searching for your scores EVERYTIME. And it's very irritating and annoying packing the files without anyone's help. So, all of us have to lend a helping hand and play a part to pack your files. It's YOUR SCORE so it is your responsibility to search for it. Yes, the SL will always get the punishment but not you even if it's not the SLs fault. If this continues, when will you ever learn the meaning of responsibility? When will you grow up and be matured? When will you ever stop being ignorant and keep on relying on your seniors?

Sec 1s, I'm happy with your improvement. At least you showed up during sectionals. But you also have to help your seniors. Soon, you will be the next generation of leaders to lead the section. So, it is still not too late for you to start being initiative. Don't always expect a message from your SL to keep reminding you about sectionals, audition and etc. It is your job to come for sectionals to improve on your playing. This also goes for the sec. 2s.

Let me say this. I want EVERYONE to learn to play EVERY percussion instruments. I dont care if its hard or whatever but this is for your own good. You will never know if one day your SL, ASLs or seniors are absent for practice leaving you alone in the section. And then comes a new song to learn and there're no seniors to play the .. drumset for example or mallets or timpani. Starting now onwards, I want everyone to do what I mention above. I'm not forcing you or something. You can just watch your seniors play and then learn from them.

Sec. 2s, I want you to grow up. It's almost time for you to lead the juniors. The sec. 3s will be very busy this year. So, I want you to change for the better. Like be initiative. For example, listen carefully to the instruction given by the leaders. Dont keep asking your seniors like "Eh ! what to do now?" or "Now do what?" or "must do warm-up or not?". I want this to stop. And don't wait for the seniors to say that oh, you all have to do this now. DOnt play or joke around anymore. You guys have been in band for almost 2 years. You should know what to be expected and to do during band prac. If you dont know, I SMACK YOU uh.

as u all know band practice will be resuming next week ...pls bring ur mc and letter next tuesday for those who never attend band practice..if u never bring ur sl will be punished u know and later u guys will be punished too.so if u guys dont wan to be punished , bring ur mc and letter....

Boo ! Laughs , thanks Fatin for thanking me -.- , lol . Im really very th bored thats why i created a blog for percussion . Hhah , but in good intention okay ! Lol , th actual story is this ..

One day, a long, dark-haired girl, Sophia, was at home 'busy' doing e-learning. Worst, she had to do it for 1 long week. It started to get utterly boring which made her real frustrated. Suddenly, a very 'good' idea pops up in her mind. And that is, to create a blog. But she was like, "Create blog for who uh?". ~~She took a glance at her drumsticks. An another 'brilliant' idea came up. that is to create a blog for her section which is PERCUSSION ..~~ She thought of her precious , Percussion , like immediately ! And she created ! :D

Hahah , Fatin got 80% correct tho (: Laughs , but this blog have many things to improve on . Like , obviously . SOSOSOSOSO , either we ALL online at certain time via msn & discuss OR , stay back in school discuss in com lab & do . Hhaha , like ._.

HELLOOO. guess who's this? haha.

anyway, just a reminder. THERE WILL BE NO BAND FOR THIS UPCOMING WEEK until further notice. So that clearly means that you fellow women and men.. oops, wrong .. fellow guys and girls need not come for band. HOWEVER, you are required to loan home your sticks and scores tomorrow - Monday, 13 July . Band store will be open right after school tomorrow.

Other than that, I would like to take this opportunity to say to all sec. 1s and 2s percussionists.
Welcome back to school! Haha. Gosh, 1 week of elearning is boring right? But to me it's fun. Because you get to stay at home and never go to school. XD

Not forgetting, a big THANK YOU to our dear Sophia Lim Shu Hui =D for creating and opening up a blog specially for PERCUSSION. I think she sort of got really bored of elearning. Oh, here's a story.

Dear Percussionists,
I am Anonymous from an island called Percussion. Since there won't be band for quite a long period, I would like to ask a favor from all of you. Please practice on your GRIPPING, STROKING, FOUR QUARTER RHYTHM and IRECOMMEND. Make sure you master all of this basic fundamentals until band resumes. There will be an audition for EACH and everyone of you soon. I really really want 100% passes for this audition. I know YOU can do it. I believe everyone of you would really love it to pass the audition right? And I am sure you guys especially the sec. 1s want to prove me wrong to what I once said , "you are really deproving", right? So take this audition as a chance for you to prove me wrong. Show me that I am wrong and you are actually better than what you are before. With that, GOOD LUCK!
